The last Kumbha Mela which was held in the year 2001 had the largest gathering of people in the whole world. Magh Mela in Allahabad


It is true that the Kumbh Mela is the biggest Mela of the world but Magh Mela also doesn’t lag far behind. It is another auspicious fair which is celebrated in Allahabad in the month of Magh, according to Hindu calendar. This is also considered to be the final fair of the season. This fair is generally conducted during the month of January to February. This fair is celebrated each year on commencing of the month of Magh with a numerous rituals. One of the main rituals is to take bath in the hold water of Sangam. Though the numbers of people taking part in this Mela are less than that of the Kumbh Mela but the number itself is quite huge.

Ardha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad


As the fair of Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years same way the Ardha Kumbh Mela is celebrated after every six months. During this festival also the people belonging to Hindu religion performs a wide range of rituals along with bathing in the holy water of Sangam. This Mela is a perfect example of traditional India.

Makar Sankranti in Allahabad


This day is celebrated as a transition period from one month to another in accordance with the Hindu calendar. This period is considered to be highly auspicious and thus people from all over the country rushes in to get a dip in the holy water. It is said that the holy water washes away the sins of the devotees.
