Nightlife in Prayagraj

Nightlife is an all-inclusive term used to describe collectively forms of entertainment such as live music, concerts, theater, cinema, shows, bars, pubs, etc. which are more popular with the people from evening to early morning. With a vast multitude of places open to the public past midnight, the choices are many and varied. Over the years some places, for example Goa, have attained a legendary status for their nightlife while others are still relatively low key.

Allahabad, also known as the city of Prime Ministers is the second oldest city in India and plays a key role in Hindu scriptures. Located at the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna it was the place where the holy scriptures, the Vedas, were born as well as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Apart from its important role in mythology there are many places to visit in the city and a host of things one can occupy oneself with both during the day and at night.

As far as food goes Allahabad has something for everyone. If dinner with family or friends is how you would like to spend your evening there are options galore to satisfy almost any food related craving. From modern fast food chains like KFC and McDonalds to fancier hotels with larger buffet spreads, from roadside cafes and dhabas to pure veg family restaurants, ice cream parlours and coffee shops it’s all there with restaurants catering to the varying tastes of this populous city.

Nightlife in AllahabadSince traditionally consuming alcohol isn’t a part of Indian culture, the bars are divided between seedy and cheap local bars usually with an all-male clientele to classier more expensive venues catering to the middle and upper classes. Allahabad has its fair share of both. The larger hotels like Hotel Kanha Shyam and Hotel Milan Palace to name a few have their own bars of course where you can select from a wide range of local and imported alcohol, cocktails included. For those on a tighter budget there are a host of local bars and pubs around the city like the Hasty Tasty at Civil Lines or Maikhana - The Bar.

And although it doesn’t come close to being the party capital of the country, the city has a smattering of night clubs that those wishing to party, dance and drink may visit, Club Stepney and Agni The Club to name a few. Hotel Kanha Shyam has its own nightclub although most clubs do not remain open past 10 p.m.

With all the recent development Allahabad has witnessed, cinema halls and theaters have sprung up all over which, means that you don’t have to go very far to catch the latest Bollywood flick after a long day of exploring this ancient city. Multiplexes like PVR Cinemas and BIG Cinemas play mostly Bollywood movies and Hollywood flicks are few and far between. There are a number of auditoriums one may visit as well like the Allahabad auditorium which hosts lectures and other exhibitions on a frequent basis and stays open late into the evening.
