Allahabad Museum

Allahabad Archaeological Museum

One of the best-maintained museums in India, it comprises of 18 separate galleries dedicated to art objects, natural history exhibits, archaeological findings and artifacts donated by late Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Formally inaugurated in 1947 by Nehru, the museum boasts of invaluable historical paintings, stone sculptures, textiles, weapons and even antiquities of the Indus Valley civilization. It also contains a lot of rare coins from the times of the Kushana and Gupta Dynasty.

Agharkar Museum

It is located inside the vast compound of the Allahabad University of the city and comprises of an assortment of specimens associated to:
  • Botany
  • Zoology
  • Anthropology
  • Archaeology
  • Geology

Visitors get to see an amazing array of objects including primitive life forms, samples of living plants and fossils and maps showing the origin and distribution of plants. The museum is overseen by the Botany department of the university and its entry is open to visitors for free. It was inaugurated in 1923.

Allahabad Archaeological Museum

It is located within the premises of the Allahabad University and is monitored by the Department of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology of the same institution. Prehistoric tools dating from ancient times to the end of the Pleistocene age are kept on display here. Other major attractions include:
